In preparation for the commencement of the month of Ramadan, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), under the leadership of its President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, has enjoined Nigerian Muslims to observe the crescent sighting starting from the night of Friday, February 28, 2025 (equivalent to 29th Sha’aban 1446 AH).

This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Council and made available to AfriReporters.

The apex Islamic body in Nigeria said the official announcement on the start of Ramadan will be made by the Sultan based on the recommendations of the National Moon Sighting Committee (NMSC).

If the crescent is sighted on the evening of February 28, Ramadan will commence on Saturday, March 1, 2025. However, if it is not sighted, fasting will automatically begin on Sunday, March 2, 2025, the statement added.

In the spirit of the precious month, the NSCIA called on affluent Muslims to extend acts of charity to the less privileged within their communities before, during, and after Ramadan, in light of the prevailing economic challenges.

Similarly, the Council also urged traders to refrain from hoarding food products or inflating prices during the holy month.

The NSCIA extends warm Ramadan greetings to Muslims across Nigeria and the world, praying for divine blessings and an opportunity for all to fully partake in the spiritual benefits of the holy month.
