The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia has officially urged residents to look for the crescent moon marking the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan on the evening of Friday, February 28, 2025, corresponding to 29 Sha’ban 1446 AH.
In an official announcement, the court called on all citizens and residents to observe the sky for the moon’s appearance, either with the naked eye or through binoculars.
Anyone who sights the crescent is encouraged to promptly report their observation to the nearest court and provide official testimony. Alternatively, they may contact the nearest center to facilitate communication with the court.
The moon sighting plays a crucial role in determining the start of Ramadan, a sacred period in the Islamic calendar dedicated to fasting, prayer, and spiritual reflection. Saudi Arabia traditionally relies on both physical sightings and astronomical calculations to confirm the beginning of the month.
Authorities emphasize the importance of public participation in this religious observance and encourage cooperation in ensuring accurate reporting.
The confirmation of the moon sighting will determine whether Ramadan begins on the following day or if the Islamic month of Sha’ban completes 30 days.
