Lagos police detain 23-year-old for beating girlfriend to death

The Lagos State Police Command has detained a 23-year-old man accused of fatally assaulting his girlfriend, spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed on Monday.

The incident occurred on Friday at approximately 8:00 p.m. in Ijedodo, Isheri-Osun. According to police reports, a concerned neighbor alerted authorities at Isheri-Osun Police Divisional Station after witnessing the suspect attacking the victim in his room.

“The neighbor said that he saw the suspect beating his girlfriend in his room for a reason yet to be determined. He said few minutes later, the suspect screamed for help, and getting to his apartment, he met his girlfriend lying unconscious on the bed with visible marks of violence found on her body,” Hundeyin stated.

The victim was rushed to a hospital in Ijegun, where doctors confirmed her death. Following the report, detectives were immediately dispatched to both the crime scene and the hospital, where they examined and photographed the corpse.

Authorities have transferred the body to a morgue in Yaba for autopsy, while the suspect remains in police custody for further investigation.
