Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has criticized the decision of the Senate to summon Ahmad Isah, CEO of Brekete Family Radio, over a broadcast involving Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The Senate has instructed Isah, widely known as the Ordinary President, to appear before the legislative body on or before February 27, 2025.

Reacting to the summons on his official X handle, Sani condemned the move, stating:
“Inviting Ahmed Isah, the CEO of Berekete Radio, to the Senate is unnecessary and demeaning.”

The controversy stems from Akpoti-Uduaghan’s dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio regarding her seating arrangement in the chamber.

The Kogi senator had accused the Senate leadership of plotting to suspend her after she objected to being relocated within the chamber without prior notice.

As tensions escalated, she refused to vacate her original seat, prompting Senate Chief Whip Tahir Monguno to invoke Section 6(1) of the Senate Standing Rules, which grants the Senate President control over seating arrangements.

During the standoff, Akpabio muted her microphone and ordered the Sergeant-at-Arms to remove her from the chamber.

In response, Akpoti-Uduaghan voiced her grievances on Brekete Family Radio in response to a direct call by the CEO of the popular Nigerian radio show.

The show also sought Akpabio’s reaction, but he declined the call.
