94-year-old man registers for 2025 UTME to fulfill dream of studying political science

In a remarkable pursuit of lifelong learning, 94-year-old Adedapo Idowu has registered for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), aiming to study Political Science at the University of Ibadan.
Idowu completed his registration at the JAMB Professional Test Center in Ibadan, Oyo State, sharing that the process dispelled his initial fears about pursuing higher education at his age.
His story was highlighted in the latest bulletin of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
“I can now attain my dream at an advanced age. The registration staff gave me a sense of belonging through the warm reception at the venue,” Idowu stated, encouraging younger candidates to remain dedicated and content in their academic journey.
The 2025 UTME registration, which commenced on January 31, has already seen over 700,000 applicants, including 11,000 underage candidates.
However, Idowu’s decision has sparked debate on social media, with many Nigerians on X expressing mixed reactions. Some applaud his determination, while others question the practicality of his ambition.
