Troops conducting clearance operations in Zamfara State have killed scores of suspected terrorists and destroyed their hideouts, including the notorious Tungan Fulani hills, a well-known insurgent haven in the Northwest region.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed the success of the operation in a post on his verified X handle, revealing that at least 44 terrorists were eliminated, while over 25 sustained injuries in coordinated assaults across multiple locations.

The offensive, part of Operation FANSAN YANMA (OpFY), was spearheaded by Special Forces of the Nigerian Army, elite Special Boats Services (SBS) of the Navy, and combat pilots from the Air Force.

Troops launched a three-pronged attack targeting insurgent strongholds in the Mashema general area, a hub for armed bandits and insurgents.

According to Makama, the operation, which began on February 7, saw troops advance through terrorist enclaves in Kashabawa, Bwarare, and Zaki before reaching Sakarawa Hill.

Upon arrival, they encountered fierce resistance, with terrorists planting Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) along the route. However, the troops executed a tactical flanking maneuver, avoiding the traps while launching a devastating counterattack.

In a decisive ground and air assault, insurgents suffered heavy casualties. Although heavy mining at the foot of the hill prevented full ground exploitation, aggressor aircraft launched a second bombardment, neutralizing more terrorists.

Among the 44 terrorists killed were key commanders linked to notorious warlords Bello Turji and Sani Black, including Sanni Bammuwa, Kachallah Auta (former deputy to Sani Black), Audu Gajere, Kabiru Jangeru, and Dan-Kane (son of Audu Jabbi).
