The Olufon of Ifon-Osun, His Royal Majesty Oba Peter Oluwole Akinyooye III, has appealed to the Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Nurudeen Ademola Jackson Adeleke, requesting immediate intervention following what he called a brutal attack on the peaceful community of Ifon-Osun in Orolu Local Government.

In the letter dated January 14, 2025, Oba Akinyooye condemned the unprovoked assault by armed individuals from Ilobu, Irepodun Local Government, which took place during the night of January 13th and into the early hours of January 14th.

The attack led to widespread destruction of property and forced displacement of residents.

The most severely affected areas, including Apiponroro, Oke Odo, and Odo Oje, witnessed violence where three people were shot while asleep in their homes, the monarch said.

The letter reads, “We write to bring to your urgent attention the unprovoked and unjustifiable attack on the peace-loving people of Ifon-Osun, Orolu Local Government, by armed warriors from Ilobu, Irepodun Local Government. These attacks occurred in the late hours of Monday, January 13th and early hours of Tuesday, January 14th, 2025, and resulted in the destruction of properties and displacement of people in our community.

“Areas severely affected include Apiponroro, Oke Odo, and Odo Oje, Ifon Osun where three (3) of our people were shot while sleeping in their houses, houses were vandalized, cars damaged, and our people chased out of their homes amidst sporadic gunfire that lasted from 11:30 pm until 7:00 am. These unwarranted acts have left our community in a state of fear and distress.

“As law-abiding citizens of Osun State, the people of Ifon-Osun have always promoted peace and harmony. While appreciating Your Excellency’s urgent intervention, we urge you to put stop to the ugly situation and protect our community from further aggression. The Ilobu attackers have demonstrated a blatant disregard for the rule of law, and it is imperative that they are held accountable for their actions. We count on your government to restore peace and safeguard the lives and properties of Ifon-Osun residents.

“Attached to this letter are photographs of some of the properties destroyed during the attack, which serve as evidence of the devastation wrought upon our community. We trust in your leadership and the commitment of your administration to justice, equity, and the well-being of all citizens. May we be assured of your swift response to address this urgent matter and prevent future occurrences.”
