Abia police commissioner disbands anti-cultism unit, cites reason

The Commissioner of Police for Abia State, Danladi Isa, has disbanded the state command’s anti-cultism unit following allegations of unprofessional conduct and incivility towards the public.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Maureen Chinaka, the decision was described as being in alignment with the vision of the Inspector General of Police.
The move aims to ensure a police force that is professional, service-oriented, adheres to the rule of law, and maintains a positive relationship with the public.
In addition to disbanding the unit, the statement revealed disciplinary action against Ebuka Okonkwo, a police officer (F/No: 527324) attached to the Area Command in Aba but serving on special duty at Isuochi.
Okonkwo was demoted from the rank of Corporal to Constable after an administrative investigation found him guilty of discreditable and unprofessional conduct as well as incivility towards the public.
Commissioner Isa reiterated the command’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy for any behavior among officers that could damage the reputation of the Nigerian Police Force.
The statement urged members of the public to report any instances of unprofessional behavior by officers to the Abia State Police Command’s Complaint Response Unit via 09031593827.
