Tragedy strikes Catholic Diocese of Nnewi as gunmen kill reverend father
The Catholic Diocese of Nnewi in Anambra State has been struck by tragedy following the reported killing of Rev. Tobias Okonkwo.
The chancellor of the diocese, Raphael Ezeogu, confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday.
According to the statement, Rev. Okonkwo was shot dead by yet-to-be-identified gunmen on the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway at approximately 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The incident occurred near Ihiala.
Ezeogu expressed the sorrow of the diocese, stating, “The Catholic Diocese of Nnewi announces, with sorrow, but with stronger faith, that our dear Rev. Fr. Tobias Chukwujekwu Okonkwo died December 26.”
He further requested prayers and Holy Masses for the eternal rest of the deceased, adding, “May Fr. Tobias rejoice in paradise forever. Amen. May God console the bereaved.”
