Liverpool is unfazed by the upcoming January transfer window, despite three of its star players—Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold—being eligible to sign pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs starting from January 1 under the Bosman ruling.

This would allow them to leave the club in the summer of 2024.

However, Liverpool is confident that all three players, whose contracts are entering their final six months, are committed to staying at Anfield. The club has continued talks with the trio, and there are no signs that any of them are eager to secure a move abroad immediately.

Arne Slot, while commenting on the situation, said, “It’s clear that from 1 January, maybe for you guys, things change a lot but they are in constant talks with the club and let’s wait and see what happens.”

Slot emphasized that as long as the players continue to perform at a high level, the head coach is happy with the situation.

Liverpool has made it clear to the players and their representatives what it can realistically afford in terms of wages, in line with both short-term and long-term financial plans.

Although there has been no public or private confirmation of any specific obstacles in the contract negotiations, the major hurdle appears to be the financial commitment needed to retain players on high salaries, particularly as some are nearing their mid-30s.

Despite these concerns, Liverpool remains optimistic and believes the trio’s preference is to stay at the club.
