Pep Guardiola opens up on personal struggles amid Manchester City’s difficult form
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has acknowledged the toll his team’s poor run of results has taken on him personally, even as he reassured fans that he is “fine.”
Speaking to former Italy international Luca Toni during an interview for Amazon Prime Sport ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League defeat to Juventus, Guardiola candidly shared how the club’s challenging period has affected his well-being.
The Spanish coach admitted that his state of mind was “ugly” due to the ongoing struggles, describing how his sleep had become “worse” and his diet had changed because of digestive issues. “I’m eating lighter,” he revealed, highlighting the impact of the situation on his health.
Guardiola’s remarks come as Manchester City faces one of their most challenging stretches in recent memory, having won just one of their last 10 matches.
Despite their usual dominance under Guardiola, City has faltered in recent weeks, leading to increased scrutiny as they prepare for Sunday’s high-stakes derby against Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium.
Asked to elaborate on his comments to Toni, Guardiola said: “I’m fine.
“In our jobs we always want to do our best or the best as possible. When that doesn’t happen you are more uncomfortable than when the situation is going well, always that happened.
“In good moments I am happier but when I get to the next game I am still concerned about what I have to do. There is no human being that makes an activity and it doesn’t matter how they do.”
