Lakers’ struggles continue as Redick uncertain about LeBron return
Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick has admitted uncertainty over LeBron James’ return to action after the star missed his second consecutive game.
James, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer and a four-time champion, was absent during Sunday’s victory over the Portland Trail Blazers due to a sore foot and missed practice this week for “personal reasons,” according to Redick.
When asked before Friday’s 97-87 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves if he had any update on James’ return, Redick simply stated, “No.”
The Lakers have now suffered eight defeats in their last 11 games, while the Timberwolves continue their strong form, securing their fifth win in six games.
Anthony Edwards led Minnesota with 23 points, while Julius Randle added 21. For the Lakers, Anthony Davis contributed 23 points and 11 rebounds in a losing effort. The team will face the Memphis Grizzlies next on Sunday.
Elsewhere, Joel Embiid’s return to action for the Philadelphia 76ers was cut short due to injury. The reigning MVP suffered a sinus fracture during a collision with the Indiana Pacers’ Bennedict Mathurin while contesting a rebound in the second quarter.
Embiid, who had recently returned from a knee injury and suspension, did not return after receiving on-court treatment. The 76ers lost the game 121-107 at Wells Fargo Center.
The Lakers and 76ers are both navigating key injuries to their star players, adding pressure to their respective seasons.
