A Magistrate Court in Ota, Ogun State, on Monday sentenced a 38-year-old man, Sodiq Mohammed, to four years in prison for breaking into a house and stealing electrical wires valued at N650,000.

Presiding Magistrate O.O. Fadairo handed down the sentence but offered Mohammed an alternative of an N80,000 fine. Additionally, the convict was directed to pay N750,000 in restitution to the complainant.

The magistrate ruled that the prosecution successfully proved Mohammed’s guilt on four charges: burglary, stealing, malicious damage, and conspiracy.

Prosecutor E.O. Adaraloye explained that the offences were committed on March 29 at around 9:00 a.m. Mohammed, along with accomplices who remain at large, broke into the residence of Ukiwa Esther, stealing electrical wires valued at N650,000. The convict also caused damage to the PoP ceiling during the break-in.

The prosecution argued that Mohammed’s actions violated Sections 390(9), 413, 451, and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
