‘Mama Boko Haram,’ two others sentenced to five years imprisonment
Aisha Alkali Wakil, also known as Mama Boko Haram, and two associates have been sentenced to five years imprisonment by Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court.
The conviction, handed down on Thursday, November 28, 2024, is for their involvement in a N6 million fraud, without an option of a fine.
Wakil, the CEO of Complete Care and Aid Foundation, was sentenced alongside Programme Manager Tahiru Saidu Daura and Country Director Prince Lawal Shoyode.
They were re-arraigned on September 1, 2020, on four counts related to cheating, conspiracy, and giving false information.
The case stemmed from an incident where the trio deceitfully induced one Bukar Kachalla of Abks Ventures Limited to deliver a 2012 Toyota Camry, valued at N6 million, under the pretense of executing a contract for its purchase.
Despite pleading “not guilty,” the prosecution, led by Mukhtar Ali Ahmed and Shamsudeeb Olayinka Saka, presented three witnesses and several documents that proved the defendants’ involvement in the crime.
In addition to their prison sentences, the court ordered the defendants to jointly and severally restitute the balance of N3.5 million to the petitioner. Failure to comply will result in an additional five years of imprisonment for each defendant.
