Breaking: Tension escalates in Kano as police barricade Emir Sanusi’s palace
Tension gripped Kano on Friday as heavily armed policemen allegedly barricaded the palace of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, preventing him from attending a royal ceremony in Bichi Local Government Area.
The event was set to feature the presentation of a staff of office to a new District Head.
According to sources within the Kano Emirate, security personnel, including armoured personnel carriers (APCs), surrounded the palace, restricting all movement.
Efforts by Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf to mediate reportedly faced obstacles, with his delegation denied access to the palace. “The governor’s representatives were stopped at the barricade,” a source close to the state government confirmed.
Simultaneously, the event venue in Bichi was also cordoned off by security personnel, leaving attendees stranded and the ceremony in limbo.
The reasons for the police action remain unclear, with widespread speculation hinting at possible political motives.
Neither the state government nor the Emirate Council has issued an official statement, leaving the public in suspense and fueling further speculations.
