The Nigerian Army’s 3 Division has recognized exceptional performance within its ranks by awarding electric motorcycles to deserving soldiers.

This initiative aligns with the Division’s commitment to promoting environmental sustainability and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

At a presentation ceremony held at the Headquarters 3 Division, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Jos, on Wednesday, Major General AE Abubakar, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) and Commander of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), emphasized the significance of the gesture. He noted that it supports the welfare-focused vision of the Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. OO Oloyede, while reinforcing sound administrative practices.

Major General Abubakar highlighted that the initiative builds on efforts launched in 2022 under the previous GOC, Major General AB Ibrahim, which similarly rewarded deserving personnel.

The GOC explained, “The electric motorcycles which have a maximum speed of 40 kilometres per hour, can cover a distance of 100 km when fully charged for a period of 2 hours. “It is both efficient and eco-friendly; and will serve as a sustainable mode of transportation within Maxwell Khobe Cantonment whilst helping to minimise the Division’s carbon footprint and supporting a cleaner, greener Nigeria.”

To facilitate the initiative’s objectives, which include reducing transportation costs for personnel, the Division has constructed a charging room at the headquarters, allowing soldiers to conveniently recharge their motorcycles during work hours.
