Kogi State: Government shuts down Zango market, responds to security concerns

The Kogi State Government has ordered the immediate closure of Zango Market in Osara and banned roadside truck parking in the vicinity, citing escalating security concerns in the area.

Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, revealed that intelligence reports identified the market as a hideout for criminal elements allegedly collaborating with some truck drivers.

This poses a significant threat to the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, and the surrounding community.

Market operators and truck drivers have been given a one-week grace period, starting Wednesday, to comply with the directive.

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has tasked law enforcement agencies and the State Security Adviser’s office with ensuring compliance and overseeing security operations during and after the grace period.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, emphasizing that proactive measures will continue to combat criminal activities in the state.
