Police arraign 113 foreign nationals for cybercrime as IGP reaffirms readiness to secure Nigeria’s cyberspace
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s capabilities in combating cybercrimes and securing cyberspace, both within Nigeria and internationally.
The IGP made these remarks while commending the operatives of Zone 7 Command and the National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC) in Abuja for their successful operation that led to the arrest of foreign nationals involved in a series of cybercrimes, including internet fraud and marketing scams.
The suspects were apprehended on November 3, 2024, in Jahi, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). During the investigation, the NPF-NCCC operatives recovered substantial digital evidence, which is believed to be critical in uncovering the full extent of the syndicate’s illegal cyber activities.
IGP Egbetokun praised the collaboration between the police operatives and the NPF-NCCC, emphasizing the Force’s growing expertise in tackling emerging cyber threats.
The recovered items arrested the foreigners include 1 Black Toyota Tundra vehicle, laptops of different makes, smartphones of various brands, tablets, desktops, computers and keyboards, Harman/Kardon sound system, MTN routers, Huawei routers, Airtel routers, D-Link routers, Starlink routers, Gamepads, 1 Sony PlayStation 5, a central processing unit, Multiple SIM cards from both local international service Providers, High-capacity servers, Drones and specialized cyber equipment, international passports, identity cards, and travel documents.
