Explosive planted by bandits destroys Zamfara bridge, claims one life
An explosive planted by bandits destroyed a bridge in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Sunday, killing one person.
According to residents, the explosive was part of a plot to attack Unguwar Galadima, a community targeted by the terrorists to avenge the September killing of their leader, Sani Black, by local vigilantes.
Sani Black, a notorious figure in Zamfara’s banditry, was known as a protégé of the late Tsoho Buhari and ally of Halilu Sububu, both prominent bandit leaders who were ambushed and killed earlier this year.
The failed attack on Unguwar Galadima saw the bandits suffering heavy losses, abandoning weapons, and retreating.
In a bid to hinder military intervention, the bandits planted the explosive near the bridge connecting Unguwar Galadima to Dansadau town. Soldiers stationed in Dansadau could have easily reached the community, just two kilometers away, to repel the attack.
However, the explosive was triggered by an unidentified driver who passed through the route, resulting in his vehicle being incinerated.
A local resident, reported fear spreading across Dansadau and nearby areas due to the use of explosives by the bandits.
“There are soldiers stationed at Dansadau town; they can easily move to Unguwar Galadima, which is about two kilometres away, to repel the attack, so the bandits planted the bomb for the soldiers.
“But nobody passed through the route until a lone unidentified driver did, and his vehicle got burnt beyond recognition,” a resident, Haruna Isyaku, told PREMIUM TIMES.
