Abia governor approves N81.6 million Christmas ‘gift’ for traditional rulers
Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has approved N81.6 million as a Christmas bonus for the state’s 544 traditional rulers.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Uzor Nwachukwu.
The gesture translates to N150,000 for each traditional ruler, with payments scheduled for completion by December 10, 2024.
Governor Otti urged the traditional rulers to continue collaborating with his administration to foster development, peace, and security across their communities.
He said, “His Excellency, Dr. Alex C. Otti has graciously approved the sum of N150,000 to each of the 544 Abia traditional rulers as Christmas bonus.
“His Excellency equally uses this opportunity to enjoin Abia traditional rulers to continue to partner with the government of Dr. Alex Chioma Otti in order to engender development, peace, and security of lives and properties within their various communities. This payment will be made on or before the 10th of December, 2024.”
Eze Linus Nto Mbah, Chairman of the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, commended the governor’s initiative, describing it as unprecedented and reflective of the administration’s recognition of the traditional institution in the state.
