Skales lashes Nigerian artists for ignoring local media
Nigerian singer Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, known as Skales, has voiced strong disapproval of his colleagues who have turned their backs on local media in favor of international platforms.
In recent years, many established Nigerian artists have increasingly chosen foreign media outlets over local ones. Skales, reacting to this trend during his appearance on the ‘Listen’ podcast, expressed his frustration, calling such behavior “crazy.”
He noted the importance of supporting the local media, stating“Any artiste that ignores the local media is really crazy because this is our own. Tearing down our own to go build foreigners’ own. Foreigners that don’t care about us.”
Skales further reminded his peers that the local media played a crucial role in their rise to fame, asserting that without the support from local platforms, the international success they now enjoy would not have been possible.
He also criticized some of his colleagues for turning their backs on the Afrobeats genre after benefiting from it, calling them “ungrateful.”
He concluded by urging Nigerian artists to be cautious not to undermine the foundations that helped build their careers, all in a bid to impress international audiences.
