Jordan: Gunman killed in “terrorist attack” near Israeli embassy
A gunman was shot dead, and three police officers were injured during a shooting near the Israeli embassy in the Rabiah neighborhood of Amman, Jordan.
According to reports from state media, the assailant opened fire on a police patrol in the area, prompting officers to respond with lethal force, as confirmed by Jordan News Agency (Petra).
The Rabiah neighborhood, often a site of protests against Israel, became the scene of heightened tension following the incident.
Jordan’s Minister of Communication and government spokesperson, Mohammad al-Momani, condemned the attack, categorizing it as “a terrorist attack on the Public Security Forces that are doing their duty.” Al-Momani emphasized that “any infringement on the security of the country and attacks on security personnel will be met with firmness.”
The incident also highlights lingering public sentiment in Jordan, where many citizens oppose the peace treaty with Israel, viewing normalization as a betrayal of Palestinian rights. The shooting underscores ongoing tensions in a region fraught with political and social unrest.
