FRSC orders crackdown on road users with fake diplomatic corps plate
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, has ordered an immediate clampdown on the proliferation of fake diplomatic and unauthorized vehicle number plates across Nigeria.
This directive aligns with the Corps’ commitment to enhancing national security and curbing criminal activities.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Mr. Mohammed identified the existence of fraudulent number plates, which are neither produced by FRSC’s licensed production plants nor issued by state Motor Licensing Authorities.
Examples of such fake plates include those labeled “DIPLOMATIC NUMBER PLATES,” “NYCN,” “PEACE AMBASSADOR,” “NAUS,” “CYMS,” “UN-UNITY 01,” “UN-AMB,” and “NANS,” among others.
To address this issue, the FRSC has initiated tactical enforcement measures across its formations nationwide to ensure the arrest and impoundment of vehicles using these unauthorized plates.
The public has been cautioned that these plates are often linked to criminal activities. Vehicle owners currently using such plates have been warned to cease their usage immediately, as violators will face prosecution.
Additionally, the FRSC is collaborating with other security agencies to trace the sources of these fake plates and bring those responsible to justice.
“By this notice, the public is hereby cautioned that these fake and unauthorised number plates are mostly used for nefarious and criminal activities,” said the FRSC statement. “Members of the public who are presently using such vehicle identifications are by this publication warned to immediately discontinue the use of these fake and unauthorised plates as defaulters will be prosecuted.”
