Gunmen enforce sit-at-home order in Anambra, kill five
Communities in the Anambra Central Senatorial Zone were thrown into chaos Monday morning as gunmen enforcing the outlawed sit-at-home order launched coordinated attacks, leaving at least five people dead.
The assaults occurred between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. in Abatete, Abagana, and Ukpo communities, with casualties primarily from the Anambra Vigilante Services.
In Abatete, three security personnel attached to the town’s President-General (PG) were killed in a hail of bullets, while the PG sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital.
Separate attacks were also reported in Abagana and Ukpo. At the Ukpo roundabout in Dunukofia Local Government Area, a vigilante member and a motorcycle rider lost their lives.
Panic has gripped the affected communities, with a voice note circulating on social media urging residents of Awka, the state capital, to remain indoors due to the proximity of the violence.
The attacks have left the region on edge, with residents calling for stronger security measures to prevent further violence.
