An Israeli airstrike early Sunday morning on a five-story residential building in Beit Lahiya, northern Gaza, has left dozens of Palestinians dead and others wounded.

The building, according to the Palestinian News Agency, WAFA, belonging to the Ghabayen family, housed displaced families before it was destroyed in the attack.

Initial reports indicate heavy civilian casualties, including women and children. Rescue operations are ongoing but are severely hindered by the scale of destruction and continued airstrikes in the area.

Emergency teams are struggling to access victims, leaving many feared trapped under the rubble.

The incident is part of an ongoing Israeli military campaign in Gaza, which has resulted in 43,799 documented fatalities and over 103,601 injuries since October 2023, according to health authorities.

Thousands remain unaccounted for beneath collapsed buildings, with limited capacity for rescue due to sustained Israeli attacks.

Calls for a ceasefire, including those from the UN Security Council and the International Court of Justice urging action to prevent further atrocities, have so far been ignored as Israeli airstrikes continue unabated. The humanitarian crisis in Gaza worsens as civilians face relentless violence and dwindling resources.
