Court of Appeal invalidates MC Oluomo’s election, affirms Tajudeen Baruwa as NURTW president
The Court of Appeal has invalidated the election of Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, as the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
The court affirmed Tajudeen Baruwa as the re-elected president in a judgement that unsettled the camp of the popular MC Oluomo.
The judgment upheld a March 11, 2024, ruling by the National Industrial Court in Abuja, which had declared Baruwa the legitimate leader of the union.
MC Oluomo had been elected during a Southwest Zonal Quadrennial Delegate Conference in Osogbo, Osun State, and had assumed office at the union’s Abuja secretariat.
However, the Appeal Court dismissed the challenge to Baruwa’s leadership in a unanimous decision by Justices Hamma Akawu Barka, Nnamdi Okwy Dimgba, and Asmau Ojuolape Akanbi. The court ordered the appellants to pay ₦100,000 in costs, ruling that MC Oluomo’s election disregarded prior legal decisions.
Baruwa, through his lawyer, Tolu Babaleye, expressed satisfaction with the judgment, which reinforced his position as the legitimate leader of the NURTW.
