Kaduna Government awards N100,000, smartphones to 39 released minors, reunites them with families
Thirty-nine minors from Kaduna State, previously detained by the police have been joyfully reunited with their families on Wednesday.
During a brief ceremony at the “Children’s Homes” on Katuru Road, the Kaduna State Government presented each child with N100,000 and an Itel A18s smartphone to support their reintegration.
Governor Uba Sani pledged full support as the children rejoin society, emphasizing the state’s commitment to rehabilitation and empowerment.
Representing the governor, Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Abdulkadir Muazu Meyere, explained that Governor Sani had instructed the collection of educational credentials for those who completed tertiary studies. “The Governor promised that some of them will receive start-up capital for trading, others will receive skills training, and some will be offered employment,” Meyere stated.
The state will closely monitor each child’s conduct, granting further benefits based on positive behavior. Contact information, including addresses, phone numbers, and next-of-kin details, was recorded to ensure ongoing support and follow-up.
Each child received a medical check-up and psycho-social counseling upon release, with a focus on personal growth and contributing to society. Religious leaders from both Islamic and Christian communities provided guidance, stressing the importance of faith and avoiding harmful influences.
Explaining the gifts, Meyere noted, “The Governor graciously granted each of them N100,000 as a measure of goodwill,” and that phones were given to replace those lost during detention.
