Bobrisky released by EFCC, disputes N15 million bribery allegations
Nigerian social media sensation Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, has been released on bail following detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged bribery accusations involving N15 million. His release marks a new chapter in an ongoing public controversy that has quickly gained attention online.
The incident began on Thursday night when Bobrisky was intercepted at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport while attempting to board a KLM flight to Amsterdam with a final destination of London. Shortly after, he was transferred to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, where he faced questioning over accusations of bribing commission officials.
The bribery allegations emerged after a voice recording, posted by social commentator Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, alleged that Bobrisky had paid off EFCC officials to settle money laundering charges. In response, Bobrisky denied any wrongdoing and publicly challenged Otse to present evidence supporting the accusation, calling the allegations baseless and defamatory.
Sources close to the investigation stated that Bobrisky denied all claims of offering bribes, asserting, “He said nobody requested money from him in the EFCC, and he didn’t give anyone anything.” In a direct call for accountability, Bobrisky urged those spreading the voice recording to come forward with concrete proof.
This case has stirred considerable online debate, adding to the complexity of Bobrisky’s high-profile persona and drawing further scrutiny of interactions between public figures and the EFCC.
