Endbadgovernance : It’s “unfortunate and shameful,” Sheu Sanni rattles government over arraignment of minors
Former Senator Shehu Sani has denounced the court arraignment of minors involved in the Endbadgovernance protests.
The protesters, including children, were taken to court on Friday, with two collapsing in the courtroom. Many Nigerians, including lawyers, criticized the move.
In a 10-count charge against them, the defendants were alleged to have been involved in violent protests in different states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kano, Nasarawa, Kaduna, Sokoto and Zamfara during the #EndBadGovernance protest, which occurred between August 1 and10.
While reacting to the arraignment, Sanni said the move is “unfortunate and shameful” for Nigeria’s democracy, urging the federal government to drop charges and return the minors to their states.
He wrote on X “The arrangement of those minors for their participation in protest is most unfortunate and shameful for our country’s democracy.
“The FG should withdraw the charges against them and return them back to their states,” he wrote.
