Thomas Tuchel is confident that England has untapped potential, and he’s determined to unlock it to achieve success at the 2026 World Cup.

Appointed as England’s head coach on an 18-month contract starting January 2025, Tuchel’s primary objective is to end the nation’s 60-year trophy drought.

Building on England’s recent successes under Gareth Southgate, including consecutive European Championship runner-up finishes and a 2018 World Cup semifinal appearance, Tuchel believes the team is capable of more.

When asked if England has an extra gear, Tuchel responded, “Maybe even a sixth gear. Let’s see where we are going. I think we have that. I am absolutely convinced that we have that.”

Tuchel’s optimism stems from England’s talented squad and his own experience in high-pressure environments

.”Besides the talent, I know we have the character in the players. I can’t wait to work with them from March on the pitch. Hopefully with all the staff at St George’s Park, we will push all the players to the limit.”

“The target is to win the World Cup, so I don’t know if it is a failure [if we don’t],” he said. “If we miss the target then we would have to talk about why we missed it.”
