“Seek your wives consent before bringing them together” — Marriage counselor tells Muslim men

A call has gone to Muslim men who are planning to marry more than one wife to seek the consent of their partners – both the incoming and the already married- before they are harmonized under one roof.

A Muslim councilor and matchmaker, Mohammed Agboola, gave the charge in a post on social media where he highlighted the need for proper communication between such a husband and the wives before such a move can be taken.

Mallam Mohammed Agboola noted that some wives may have no problem with polygyny but may become uncomfortable seeing their husbands making romantic moves to their co-wives.

He wrote: “Abu, before you bring both wives together on the same roof, try to seek their opinion too, some wives have no problem with Polygyny, but they feel uncomfortable seeing you doing ‘lovely lovely’ with other wife around them.”

While bearing their minds on the post, some followers agreed with the Muslim matchmaker, as they posited that having a mutual understanding on such an important issue will help in strengthening the ties of the relationship instead of taking a singular decision that may have a negative impact on it.

A user Tamara Ntshweza argued that it is difficult to watch her husband smiling and showing love to another woman when it is indeed clear that she has no problem with polygyny.

She said: “I can’t watch my husband smiling to other woman, but I don’t have problem with polygamy, he can have as many wives as he can afford.”

To Babatunde Shakirah Romoke, polygyny is hard to accept without jealousy. She commented: “There is no how you accept polygyny as a woman and you won’t feel hurt while seeing someone else playing love with your man. Best thing is to stay apart.”
