FG Orders investigation into bribery allegations in Nigerian Correctional Service
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has directed a comprehensive investigation into bribery and corruption allegations within the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
This follows reports that Idris Okuneye (aka Bobrisky), sentenced to prison earlier this year, did not serve his term inside the correctional facility.
A leaked audio recording allegedly features Bobrisky revealing he spent his jail term in a nearby apartment, arranged by a mysterious godfather with connections to top prison officials.
The minister vowed to root out corruption, ensuring those found guilty face severe consequences.
“The Ministry will not tolerate any compromise on its core values of integrity, transparency, and accountability. We will leave no stone unturned in rooting out corruption and ensuring that those found culpable face the full wrath of the law,” the statement said.
The minister has since appointed a special investigative team, led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, to investigate the allegation and provide a detailed report.
