Yahaya Bello not in our net, EFCC clarifies
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has debunked reports that former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello is in their custody, stating that he remains wanted for alleged N80.2 billion money laundering charges.
According to Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity, the commission clarified that the former governor is not being held at their facilities, contrary to media reports.
Bello’s status as a wanted individual stems from his alleged involvement in money laundering, with a subsisting warrant issued for his arrest.
The EFCC had previously attempted to execute the warrant on April 17, 2024, but was met with resistance, including interference from the current Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo.
The EFCC reassures that Bello is not above the law and will be brought to justice as soon as possible.
The commission’s stance on Bello’s case comes amid preparations for his arraignment on 19-count charges related to the alleged money laundering scheme.
