Local Government Elections in Enugu State will proceed as scheduled, ENSIEC declares

The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) has confirmed that the Local Government Elections in Enugu State will proceed as scheduled on September 21.
ENSIEC Chairman, Prof. Christian Ngwu, announced during a press briefing on Sunday in Enugu, stating that all necessary arrangements have been finalized for smooth and efficient elections for chairmanship and councillorship positions across the state.
“Those thinking that the Sept. 21 date might be moved or rescheduled are not reasoning with the reality on the ground,” Ngwu said, emphasizing that the commission is adhering strictly to its timetable and has secured the financial backing from the state government to ensure a successful election.
He further noted that comprehensive logistics plans have been established, and the commission is coordinating closely with security agencies and other organizations to provide support before, during, and after the elections.
“We are leaving no stone unturned in ensuring proactive and adequate security for electoral materials, officials, and voters on election day,” Ngwu stated.
The head of the election umpire also disclosed that that the commission is partnering with an organization for a three-day train-the-trainers workshop for 50 key electoral officials, including Electoral Officers (EOs), unit heads, and other staff. Those trained will then instruct the ad-hoc electoral staff that the commission has arranged to recruit in all council areas.
He added that over 10 political parties have expressed interest in participating in the elections, which will be held to fill 17 chairmanship and 260 ward councillor positions in the state.
