Kwara State set for economic boost as garment factory nears completion

In preparation for the commissioning of the Kwara State Garment Factory, the Kwara State Government has made an on-the-spot assessment of the laudable capital project to ascertain proper completion of the factory, promising to take the ‘State of Harmony” to the promise land through all efforts and initiatives to improve socioeconomic activities and well-being of the citizens.

The  State Commissioner for Business, Innovation and Technology, Hon. Damilola Yusuf Adelodun, made the assertion during a visit today to assess the Kwara State Garment Factory, which is at the stage of commissioning, first of its kind in West African region.

The Commissioner stressed the need to  assess the progress and level of work done by the project Consultant from Star Sewing Machine Limited, Mr. Mohammed Sharunn, the Consultant engaged by the State Government for the management and operations of the factory.

She further disclosed that the Consultant is expected to train the factory workers on effective handling and usage of the machines and equipment, adding that the contract was award in March, 2024, with a duration of 6 months, which will lapse on the 1st of September, 2024.

Hon. Yusuf Adelodun appreciated the job done by the Consultant while inspecting the factory, led by the Managing Director of the Garment Factory, Hajia Bukola Keffaya Adedeji, commending the workers on their level of performance and charged them to be dedicated to duties and ensure they understand how the machines are being operated properly.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Kemi Mary Adeoshun, expressed her delight at the level of performance  of the Consultant, appreciating the workers for the effective usage of the machines and equipment.

Mrs. Adeoshun reassured that the Ministry will provide necessary guidance and support to ensure the factory reaches its full potential of creating employment opportunity and stimulating economic growth in Kwara State.

Present at the visit were the Director, Personnel,  Finance and Supply, Mr. Tunde Thompson Amos; Project Manager, Mr. Rafiu Bayo Adeniran; Quantity Surveyor, Mr. Saaid Babatunde Salihu and Architect Rasheedat Mustapha, both from Ministry of Housing and Urban Development; and the Project Officer, Ministy of Business, Innovation and Technology, Nurudeen Agunbiade.
