“Prison is no place for a rational person; think carefully before engaging in criminal activities.” — Seun Egbegbe
Nigerian filmmaker and producer Seun Egbegbe advised Nigerians, particularly the youth, to avoid engaging in criminal activities.
Egbegbe made this plea during an interview with actress Biola Adebayo on the ‘Talk to B’ podcast, where he reflected on his own experiences in prison.

During the interview, Egbegbe expressed gratitude to the key figures who supported him throughout his ordeal.
He stressed the importance of steering clear of actions that could lead to imprisonment, emphasizing that no one is immune to the consequences of breaking the law.
“Nobody is above the law. Anybody can end up in prison. I couldn’t believe it. Despite my connections with powerful and influential people, I spent six years,” Egbegbe stated.
He further advised, “Try as much as possible to avoid criminal activities that will make you end up in prison. There are criminals and innocents. If you think you are powerful, your days are numbered. At a point, I was in the same prison with the former Governor of Ekiti, Ayo Fayose.”
Egbegbe recounted his own experience, explaining that he spent over six years in prison due to his inability to meet the bail bond set by the court.
“I was arrested for attempted fraud on February 2, 2017, and appeared in court on February 10, 2017. However, repeated adjournments delayed my case for six long years,” he explained.
He detailed the resolution of his case, noting that on October 11, 2022, the judge delivered a verdict that struck out 44 of the 45 charges against him.
“That day, I was sentenced to seven years in prison, but because the sentences ran concurrently, I was discharged on the same day. The judge also ordered that all the money found on me at the time of my arrest be returned,” Egbegbe concluded.
