Kekere-Ekun in line to succeed as Olukayode Ariwoola Chief Justice of Nigeria
The National Judicial Council (NJC) has made a surprise recommendation for Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun to succeed as the Chief Justice of Nigeria.
This decision was made during an impromptu closed-door meeting in Abuja on Thursday, initially planned for Friday.
Reports say the NJC also recommended 27 other candidates for appointment as judges of the state high court during the ongoing meeting.
The tenure of Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, will come to a close on August 22, when he reaches the mandatory retirement age of 70, paving the way for his successor.
Lord Ariwoola was appointed a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2011. He was a Justice of the Court of Appeal between 2005 and 2011 after having been elevated from the State High Court of Oyo State.
The legal icon was first appointed a Judge of Superior Court of record in Oyo State in 1992 from private legal practice.
Before his elevation to the Supreme Court, he served as Justice of the Court of Appeal in Kaduna, Enugu and Lagos Divisions. He is also a fellow of the International Dispute Resolution Institute (FIDRI) having been inducted in Dubai, U.A.E in 2014.
