Just in: Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti reacts to Super Cup success
Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has lavished praises on his players after winning the European Super Cup against Atalanta FC.
The Spanish sides won the curtain-raiser for the European interclub competitions by 2-0.
Kylian Mbappe had a perfect debut as the French forward scored a crucial goal, showing the Los Blancos fans exactly what they have been waiting so many years for.
Commenting on his team’s performance, coach Ancelotti confessed to TNT Sports that the game was a difficult one but was very pleased with the performance of his players.
He said, it was a “difficult game. Second half much better. We had more space in front and we showed our qualities. The first half we had a lot of difficulties. Atalanta played very well.
“We’re happy, first game of the season and we’ve started well.
“Mbappe did really well. Of course we have a lot of quality but we have to be able to play together. We did tonight. This is good for us.”
Real Madrid have won 19 of their last 20 finals in international competitions since 2002.
A 2018 Super Cup extra-time defeat by Atletico Madrid is the exception.
