Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes has suggested that the incumbent Manchester City head coach, Pep Guardiola, is the right man to take over as England football manager.

In an interview with Sky Sports, the midfield icon appraised the tactical might of the Spanish tactician who had managed Barcelona and Bayern Munich before he switched to the Etihad Stadium where he has bagged many honours with the Cityzens.

According to Scholes, Pep is in the right position to get the English players over the line.

He said, “I don’t want to say it, but somebody like Pep would get these players over the line!”

Recall that England manager Gareth Southgate resigned two days after Spain’s defeat in the 2024 European Championship final.

The Three Lions lost 2-1 in Berlin– their second consecutive Euros final defeat, having been beaten on penalties by Italy at Wembley three years ago.

Southgate, 53, managed his country for 102 games in eight years in charge. His contract was set to expire later this year.

“As a proud Englishman, it has been the honour of my life to play for England and to manage England,” said Southgate.

“It has meant everything to me, and I have given it my all.

“But it’s time for change, and for a new chapter.” He said.
