Governor Abba Yusuf solidifies Sanusi’s power, appoints three new second-class Emirs in Kano
Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has confirmed the appointment of three new second-class emirs in a move that further solidifies the position of his ally, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, as the Emir of Kano.
According to a statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa, on Wednesday, the new emirs will serve under the first-class emirate of Kano.
The appointments include Alhaji Muhammad Karaye as Emir of Karaye, previously District Head of Rogo, and Alhaji Muhammad Umar as Emir of Rano, formerly District Head of Bunkure.
Alhaji Aliyu Abdulkadir Gaya was named the Emir of Gaya. He was the emir of the defunct Gaya emirate, who was dethroned among others recently.
The statement added, “While congratulating the newly appointed Emirs, Governor Abba Yusuf enjoined them to be custodians of culture, peace, and unity of the people in their respective emirates.”
Recall that Yusuf had on Tuesday signed into law three second-class emirates in the state, with Rano covering only Rano, Kibiya, and Bunkure Local Government areas.
He said in a statement on his official Facebook page that the “approval allows for the establishment of three second-class emirates of Rano, Karaye and Gaya.
“The Gaya emirate will include Gaya, Albasu, and Ajingi local government areas, while the Karaye emirate will cover Karaye and Rogo local government areas, and Rano is made up of Rano, Kibiya and Bukure local government areas.
“The second-class emirs of these emirates will be answerable to the Emir of Kano, and they will possess the authority to counsel the Emir on matters concerning public order, territorial disputes, communal conflicts, and religious affairs within their respective domains.”
