Egypt renews commitment to strengthen bond with Horn of Africa countries
Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdel Ati, has stressed the importance of bolstering relations with the countries of the Horn of Africa.
Abdel Ati highlighted Cairo’s commitment to achieving a higher degree of interconnection with these nations, emphasizing their strategic significance for Egyptian national security.
The minister stated these during a meeting in Cairo on Tuesday with the European Union Special Representative to the Horn of Africa, Annette Weber.
He called for the preservation of the Sudanese state and institutions by urgently addressing the humanitarian consequences of the ongoing crisis.
A statement by the Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid, said the meeting touched on security and political developments in the Horn of Africa, including escalating crises and the growing threats of extremism and terrorism.
It added that the two sides reviewed the outcomes of the Sudanese Political and Civil Forces Conference and Cairo’s efforts to create common ground among Sudanese parties to initiate a comprehensive political process.
Abdel Ati and Weber agreed on the necessity of concerted efforts to defuse the conflict, coordinate effective mediation paths, and employ all diplomatic and political means to address the crisis swiftly.
