Tragedy strikes again as a two-storey residential building in Kubwa, Abuja, collapses just 24 hours after a deadly building collapse in Jos, Plateau State, which claimed over 20 lives.

The building, formerly a hotel, had been converted into a residential structure before it caved in on Saturday morning at 7:00 am.

A survivor reported hearing cracking sounds before fleeing the scene moments before the collapse. Emergency responders and security personnel are currently working together to rescue trapped victims and maintain order.

The West African country has experienced a string of deadly building collapses in recent years, including a 2021 incident in Lagos’ Ikoyi district where a high-rise building under construction crumbled, claiming at least 45 lives.

In 2022, a  tragedy occurred in the Ebute-Metta area of Lagos where a three-storey building collapse resulted in at least 10 fatalities.
