William Ruto, Odinga agree to hold national dialogue over issues raised by Gen Zs Kenyans
President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga today convened a press briefing at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) to discuss the formation of a multi-sectoral forum aimed at addressing the issues raised by recent anti-government protests, particularly those involving the Finance Bill.
The consultative meeting between the two leaders resulted in the decision to establish a six-day forum beginning on Monday, July 15. This initiative is intended to expedite discussions on the concerns of the anti-government protesters and to propose a viable way forward for the country.
President Ruto emphasized the importance of financial prudence during these discussions, stating, “This will be a six-day forum and will propose the way forward for the country. In the interest that we live within our means, all participants will bear their costs of attendance.”
Raila Odinga, the former prime minister, supported Ruto’s sentiments, highlighting the necessity of the national dialogue to resolve the current crisis.
Odinga reiterated the agreement that every participant would bear their own costs for attending the forum, underscoring a collective commitment to finding sustainable solutions.
This meeting and the forthcoming forum represent a step towards addressing the pressing issues raised by the younger generation and the broader community of anti-government protesters, seeking to ensure a stable and prosperous future for the nation.
