With barely six months until general elections in Ghana, President Nana Akufo-Addo has reiterated his will to transfer power to the next administration in a peaceful way, as he highlighted the country’s rich history of peaceful polls.

Akufo-Addo reiterated Ghana’s history of conducting peaceful elections, which has been successfully done eight times already in the 4th Republic.

The president assured that the will of the people of Ghana will not be manipulated, adding that his administration will maintain the reputation of the country as a democratic and open society.

He stressed further that the selection of a country’s leader should be a direct expression of the people’s democratic will, uninfluenced by external factors, as he expressed commitment to ensuring that the upcoming December elections genuinely reflect the people’s choices rather than allowing special interest groups to exert undue influence over the outcome.

Ghana will hold general elections on December 7, 2024, to choose a president and parliamentary representatives.

Incumbent President Nana Akufo-Addo cannot run for re-election due to term limits.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has chosen Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia as their candidate, while former President John Mahama will represent the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The President of Ghana is elected using the two-round system, while the 275 members of Parliament are elected in single-member constituencies using first-past-the-post voting.
