In a tragic turn of events, a Nigerian pilgrim, Mrs. Hawawu Mohammed, took her own life in an apparent suicide in Madinah, Saudi Arabia, ahead of this year’s hajj, which is set to commence on Friday.
The Kwara State Muslim Pilgrims Board, while confirming her death, said the female pilgrim was suspected to have killed herself from the rooftop of her apartment in Madinah.
The tragic incident was announced by Abdulsalam AbdulKabir, the Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Muslim Pilgrims Board, in a press release.
No reason was identified for the incident.
AbdulKabir also disclosed that another pilgrim from the state, Saliu Mohammed, passed away in Madina.
Both deaths have been described as “sad events” by the Kwara State Muslim Pilgrims Board, which expressed deep regret but submitted to the divine will of Allah.
The deaths of Mrs. Hawawu and Saliu Mohammed have added to the death toll of Nigerian pilgrims who have died in Saudi Arabia ahead of this year’s Hajj.
Earlier, two pilgrims from Kebbi State also passed away shortly after they arrived in Madinah.
