Breaking: Official announcement imminent as Sanusi II reinstated as Emir of Kano
Reports emanating from Kano State indicated that the incumbent Emir, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has been booted out of office and replaced with the former royal head, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.
The shocking move came after the Majority leader of the Kano House of Assembly, Lawal Hussaini Chediyar Yan Gurasa, declared that all ruling emirs in Kano have been kicked out of their thrones with immediate effect
The lawmaker disclosed this after the Kano State Emirs (Appointment and Deposition) Law was repealed on Thursday.
Recall that the lawmaker sponsored the motion for repealing of the law which ex-Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje assented on December 5, 2019, which created four new emirates.
“This bill in its entity has abrogated the establishment of 5 new Emirates in the state and reverted to the former status of a single emir in Kano which we inherited since the Jihad of Shehu Usman Dan Fodio. That’s what the Bill is now all about and there was a plan to create an additional second class Emir after this.”
“This means that the remaining 5 emirs are no longer in existence. There is no Emir now in Kano. It is now the decision of the governor to appoint a new emir. The Bill has empowered the governor to invite the kingmakers to nominate a new king. So we are now waiting for the governor to ascent to the Bill if he wishes and invite the kingmakers to give him a new king.
“The abolished emirate did nothing but create division among the indigence of kano. The unity which was visible thousands of years in Kano was divided. We are now reverting back to our old historical background; one Kano, one people, one Emir.
“We expect cooperation from the people of Kano. This is a welcome development. Kano is now United. That is what we are hoping that the people of Kano would cooperate. We need their maximum cooperation and prayer towards the peace and development of our great state,” he said.
Although, there is has official statement regarding the resintastement of the former Governor of the Central Bank
announced, sources close to the Kano Emirates hinted that Sanusi II has been reinstated, and is expected in Kano on Friday.
Amendment Bill, which will drive the eventual decision and announcement, has been sent to the state governor assent.
“The bill has been sent to the governor for assent, now there is no longer an active Emir in Kano in all the five Emirates; Kano, Bichi, Gaya, Rano and Karaye. The law now provides the governor to call on the traditional kingmakers to choose a new king,”
Majority Leader of the Kano State House of Assembly, Lawan Hussaini Chediyar Yan Gurasa, who sponsored the Amendment Bill, told journalists in Kano..
