President Tinubu pledges to honour 17 soldiers killed in southern Delta State
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, says the Nigerian government will immortalise the military personnel killed in the Southern Delta State in a violent clash.
The Nigerian leader also pledged to bestow national honours and give the national heroes a befitting burial arrangement.
Mr. Tinubu said this while speaking at the breaking of Ramadan fast on Wednesday in Abuja with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and the leadership of the House.
He expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the soldiers as he promised that their sacrifices will never be in vain.
Recall that about 17 personnel of the Nigerian military were killed in Delta State while on a peacekeeping mission, sparking widespread condemnation in the country and beyond.
The president added that he will soon make further pronouncements, but the soldiers must have a befitting burial and national honours.
Meanwhile, the Human Rights Protection Congress (HRPC) has expressed concern over the fate of civilians trapped in Okuama community following the continued occupation of the military.
It added that the land dispute between the two communities is age-long and all hands must be on deck to bring the conflict to a complete end.
