The Somalian Danab Commandos, in collaboration with Jubaland state regional forces, have initiated operations against Al-Shabab fighters in the Lower Juba region, targeting areas where the group is known to have established hideouts.

Security forces have confirmed that the joint operation is currently underway in the remote villages of Kismayo and the Jannay Abdalle area. However, official sources from both federal and regional forces have not disclosed detailed information regarding casualties resulting from the operation.

Authorities have reported the apprehension of several individuals suspected of having affiliations with Al-Shabab. They have expressed their commitment to sustaining such operations aimed at thwarting future attacks by the group.

In a recent incident, Al-Shabab launched an assault on a hotel in Mogadishu, resulting in the deaths of at least three government soldiers and injuries to 27 individuals, including lawmakers and civilians. Law enforcement later confirmed the neutralization of five assailants involved in the attack.

Al Shabaab has been waging a violent insurgency against Somalia’s federal government since 2006 in a bid to establish its own rule based on its interpretation of Islamic Sharia law.

Attacks by the group have been repelled by government-backed forces since the mid-2010s. Despite the gains recorded against Al Shabaab, the group still controls vast areas in southern and central Somalia and launches sporadic attacks on civilian and military targets.
