Ramadan: Nigeria Police Force pledges commitment to security, seeks support of citizens
As the holy month of Ramadan begins among Muslims in many parts of the world, the Nigeria Police Force has pledged its commitment to ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of all citizens.
This was contained in a statement made available by the Force public relations officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
The police highlighted the importance of respecting religious practices and cultural traditions and the need to promote the principles of tolerance, understanding, and unity within Nigeria’s diverse society, especially during this precious month.
The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, in his message called on all Muslim Ummah to embrace the spirit of compassion, generosity, and forgiveness that defines Ramadan.
He calls for all to “come together, support one another, foster a sense of harmony, and build stronger bonds of friendship and cooperation in the holy month and beyond.”
The Inspector-General of Police, “while urging members of the public to embrace the community policing concept, appealed to Nigerians to support the Police efforts to maintain peace and order throughout the month of Ramadan.”
Nigeria has been struggling with internal security challenge with a sudden rise in cases of kidnapping.
Recall that nearly 300 schoolchildren and other were recently abducted by gunmen in different parts of northern Nigeria with the police and other security agencies promising to rescue the victims and bring the criminals behind the acts to justice.
