I’m not leaving Chippa United soon, says Nigeria goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali
Nigeria goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has expressed his eagerness to prolong his tenure at Chippa United, aiming for an additional one or two years with the South African club.
Despite attracting attention from prominent clubs like South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs and Belgian Pro League’s Union St Gilloise, the 27-year-old remains committed to Chippa United following an impressive performance for the Super Eagles at the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations.
The goalkeeper recently made his return to Chippa United after the national team assignment where he won the silver medal with the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
speaking in an interview with SABC, Nwabali said, “When you play under a chairman who understands you, everything falls into place – confidence grows… Playing under a chairman who prioritizes the comfort of his players motivates you to give your all, whether you’re in or out of the team.
“To be honest, I sincerely hope to continue playing for one or two more years under his leadership – that’s my heartfelt desire. If he shares the same sentiment, that would be wonderful, but it’s truly my wish because he’s a wonderful person.”
“He has shown me kindness, and I would like to reciprocate that. However, if my time with the club comes to an end at the conclusion of this season, I will accept it gracefully. If there are further opportunities for me to continue, then I’ll embrace them wholeheartedly,” he concluded.
Nwabali impressed for Nigeria at the AFCON 2023 finals and played key roles in the Super Eagles win against South Africa in the Semi-finals.
The former Enyimba goalkeeper received cash gifts, a national honour and was showered with a chieftaincy title in his hometown after the competition.
